Shenandoah Stone started as Shenandoah Asphalt, Inc. in 1985 as an Asphalt supply and paving company located in Timberville, Virginia. Wanting to supply themselves with stone they started a stone quarry in the lower end of Augusta County in 1987. About 1993 they stopped running the asphalt plant and focused on just the quarry. Ownership changed about 2000, when Abner Nash Johnston, IV became the sole owner. He started selling the natural smooth-edged stone for landscaping and decorative needs instead of crushing materials for asphalt and concrete. Upon his Divorce and Retirement in November 2025 the ownership transferred to his Ex-wife, Clara May Coffey and his son, William N Johnston, and continues today.
